4 Full-Time RVing Gadgets You’ll Want in Your RV

RV slide jacks

Hi, my name is Kate. I’m a full-time RVing mom of a rambunctious, almost-two-year-old, with another on the way. Along with our golden retriever, my husband, son, and I comfortably live in a Forest River Sabre 36BHQ fifth wheel like this one that’s on sale for the amazing price of just $44,999 — seriously, folks, this is a steal at that price!

Since September, we’ve been living exclusively in our RV, and it’s been a bit of a learning curve in some areas. Here are my four favorite gadgets that we’ve bought for our RV lifestyle and why I think they’re a must for anyone who wants to live in an RV.

1. Fifth Wheel Stabilizer Tri-Pod

One of the first items we bought for our RV after arriving was this Ultra-Fab 19-950001 King Pin Tripod 5th Wheel Stabilizer from Amazon. This tripod not only helps to reduce some of the natural swayings when you’re moving through the RV, but it helps me feel better on incredibly windy days. The tripod is a non-weight-bearing stabilizer, so it doesn’t help to hold the RV up, but it does reduce some of the wear on the RV as it sits in a location for a while.

2. Slide Jacks

Our fifth wheel has four slide-outs, which are excellent for adding interior space but can be hard on the RV itself when the slides are left out for long periods of time. Since we live in ours full-time, the falls are basically always out unless we’re moving to a new location. We decided to invest in some RV Slide Jacks like these. They are easy to install, and we’ve noticed a difference in the ability to open and close the slides without strain since getting them.

3. Instant Pot

I almost didn’t include this one in the list because if you have a smaller RV like this Keystone Cougar Bullet travel trailer, you may not have room for either gadget. However, for us, these two cooking gadgets have saved us so much money. I recommend the name-brand Instant Pot in either a 6 or 8 qt., but that’s because I have room for it, and we use it almost every night.

The Instant Pot I have pictured below is my actual pot in my RV. So, you can see it’s a bit of a beast in the small kitchen. However, as I said, this is the main tool we use for our family dinners, so it’s well worth the space. As an additional note, this is the Instant Pot with an Air Fryer attachment, which I do not recommend. It’s great if you’re going to use the air fryer portion infrequently, and it cooks well, but it’s impossible to get the heating coil clean and the basket chips after a lot of use. We had to replace ours after about six months.

4. Air Fryer

Whereas I don’t recommend the combination air fryer and Instant Pot, I do recommend that everyone — full-time RVer or not — get an air fryer. These things are incredible, and they have become my go-to for crispy, toasty, crunchy foods. We use ours 2-3 times a day, and it fits perfectly on the counter, where the Instant Pot used to go. There are several types, but we chose a Yedi Total Package Air Fryer Oven XL because it’s our oven. Our RV’s oven does a great job and cooks pretty evenly, but the air fryer can be taken outside if we want to cook under the awning or by the grill, and it uses electricity instead of propane, which is a plus for us. So far, we’ve made bacon, quesadillas, french fries, burgers, pizza, cinnamon rolls, and so much more in it, and they’ve all be delicious.

There you have it!  These gadgets are my secret to making RV life comfortable!  If you’re looking for the perfect RV for your travels, check out the hundreds of deals on new and used RVs for sale at RVingPlanet.com!
